This double number from Verve (vol. X, n° 37/38) contains the drawings made by the Russian-French artist and early modernist Marc Chagall in 1958 and 1959 on biblical themes which in general he had not dealt with in his illustrations for the Bible reproduced in Verve 33/34. Comprises 96 reproductions in b/w (printed by Draeger Frères) and 25 coloured lithographs (printed by Mourlot Frères) one of which is a cover specially designed by the artist for this volume. To Chagall, the Bible was the greatest source of poetry of all time.
