Engr., 34 x 49,5 cm, hand-coloured (margins reinforced, a few waterstains, once the map was framed).
Ortelius' first world map, recognisable by the "aeternitas" in Cicero's quote unbroken on the 1st line. With a repaired crack in the pl., characterising the 4th st. Based upon Mercator's map of 1569, Gastaldi's map of 1561, and Diego Gutierrez' portolan map of the coastlines of the Atlantic. From the 1579 edition of Ortelius' "Theatrum orbis terrarum".
