Lot description
Drawing, watercolour, 8,4 x 7,5 cm, laid paper, unsigned, numbered at lower right "V" (2 horiz. permanent creases running over the image, upper left corner cut off, some minor dampstaining, mostly visible on verso).
Portrait of a peasant smiling at the beholder. Close in style to similar portraits by Cornelis Dusart, such as his print of "A bust of a laughing peasant with a hat" (Hollstein V:112). Dusart was known for his genre scenes and small comical peasant watercolour portraits.
