Only edition of this detailed account of pilgrimage to the Holy Land by the Franciscan A. Gonsales; consisting of 6 books of which 1 and 5 describe the voyage from Antwerp to Jerusalem and back, while the other books deal with the holy places in Israel, the lands and the people of Egypt and Syria and the local fauna and flora. Engr. ill.: 5 maps (the Holy Land, Jerusalem, Egypt, Syria, Mount Carmel) and 33 (of 34) full-page pl. showing detailed plans of important churches (Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Church of the Nativity, etc.), Nazareth, Mount of Olives, costumes, Turkish torture techniques and horse games, whirling dervishes, the pyramids at Giza, animals, etc., of which 2 signed Jacobus Neeffs after Hiëronymus van Orley.
