Paris, Poinçot, 1789

8vo: 44 pp.; 38 + 6 pl. on laid paper (uncut copy).

Contemp. paper covers (missing spine).

Very rare collection, complete in itself, of 44 nicely engraved hand-coloured botanical plates by Aubry comprising the last and 38th volume of the "Oeuvres complètes" of Rousseau publ. by Poinçot in 1788-1793. The engravings, inserted in the text, are intended to illustrate the thirty-two elementary letters on botany as well as the dictionary of terms of use in botany. In the letters we find the name (in French) and a description of the different flowers and plants represented. Plates I to XXXVIII illustrate the letters and plates I to VI are part of the dictionary of botanical terms.
