Illustrated (photographs, drawings, reproductions of documents) with 960 b/w in-text clichés and with 255 plates of which 47 in colour (costumes, miniatures, carpets... some mounted on hard, coloured paper and protected with captioned tissue guards), 2 maps and 39 pl. each with 2 subjects. Concentrating on modern-day Iran, the ill. show agriculture, society (princes, rich and poor people, merchants, beggars...), various tribes, commerce and industry (opium, tapestry), major cities, art, arms, instruments... D'Allemagne (France 1863-1950) is more known for his books on games (cards) and applied arts.
