Collection of postcards made from photographs taken by Casimir Zagourski in Africa. The photos are set in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Rwanda, Chad, Kenya, Central African Republic, Cameroon and Congo-Brazzaville. They depict a variety of aspects of everyday life. Zagourski (in Polish Kazimierz Zagórski, 1883-1944) was a pioneering photographer of Central African peoples and customs. In 1924 he emigrated from Europe and settled in Léopoldville, gallicizing his name and opening a photographic studio. He travelled widely in Central Africa undertaking many expeditions to photograph disappearing native African traditions. Our set contains postcards from the first and second series. Loosely inserted: 4 b/w silver prints of the Victoria Falls, 1944, ca. 9,4 x 26,6, ms. captions on verso.
