Lot description

Probably 18th c

Paper, 28,5 x 19 cm.

Border of a Persian manuscript, beautifully decorated with flowers. The flowers and flowerbuds are depicted true to life, a.o. three bunches of roses, narcissi and dog roses (in the largest border on top), violets, pink carnations, blue forget-me-nots and white tulips, all in delicate colours, they are visited by butterflies and other insects. In the middle with two small strips on a cardboard frame (and so easily detachable) a miniature is pasted (18,5 x 12,5 cm) of an Arabic medical text, probably written in Istanbul in the 18th c. On this medical text, much later, but in (11th c.) Abbassid style, a miniature is painted, depicting two scholars sitting under a tree lively discussing a text which is open on a book stand before them. Although not old (the note added in pencil on the frame is not correct), it is carefully executed and has a certain charm.
