Contemp. red calf, gilt orn. border on covers, gilt orn. flat spine (faded, joints rubbed, starting to split, head and tail sl. def.).
Brussels edition (1st Paris, 1822-27) of this magnificent obstetrical atlas of the 19th c. by the French physician Maygrier (1771-1835). Ill. (complete) with 80 numb. pl. (1 to 79, pl. 27 & 28 on the same p., n. 79 two times attributed) after drawings by Duvivier, Lauters, Vandenkerckhoven, Lemonnier, lithographed by Dewasme or Burggraaff. Maygrier was a student of Antoine Dubois and practiced at the Cochin hospital and the Hôtel-Dieu. His objective was to simplify the teaching of the subject. He became one of the most important obstetricians of the 19th c.
