Lot description

8vo: [4]-xvi-255 pp. (some spotting throughout).

Contemp. calf (rubbed, corners repaired, rebacked).

First edition of this particularly fascinating essay on the moral value of the unborn child by the physician and man-midwife W. Osborn (1736-1808). The question arises if the child in utero is destitute of feeling and whether or not the mother should be saved if both mother and child can't be. Osborn gives his opinion on symphyseotomy and on Caesarean section both of which he's opposed to.
Ref. COPAC. - Blake 334. - Wellcome IV:272.
