Contemp. three-quarter black shagreen, black shagreened paper covers, gilt ruled spine with raised bands, brown sprinkled edges (rubbed, traces of use, edges and corners very dulled).

Work depicting Oslo, Christiania being a former name of the city, and from 1925 on, for the part of the city founded by Christian IV. Illustrated with 5 lithographs figuring a panorama and views of the city (including of the Carl Johans Gade), the cotton factory of Schou in the valley of St Margaret and the old castle of Akershuus under snow. With descriptive texts in Norwegian, German and English. The work was first published in 1850. Tönsberg (1813-1897), one of the larger Norwegian publishers, is best known for his illustrated books on the country.
