4to: [1-1 bl.]-59-[10-1 bl.] pp. (sm. def. to title and loosening, tiny wormtracks on lower margins throughout, some min. spotting).
Contemp. calf (some scratches on covers, sm. restoration at lower right corner of upper cover), gilt orn. spine with 5 raised bands (def. at head and tail, joints rubbed), red leather title label, gilt sides.
Original edition of this highly reputed work by the French surgeon Fr. Mauriceau (1637-1709), published one year before the death his death. Containing 150 new observations and the narrative of a childbirth "d'un très gros enfant en son ventre, après un fort laborieux travail durant quatre jours". "Mauriceau, leading obstetrician of his day, introduced the practice of delivering his patients in bed instead of in the obstetrical chair" (Garrison & Morton).
