2 vol., 8vo: [39-1 bl.]-750-[26], [16]-640-[15-1 bl.] pp. (some light marg. staining).

Contemp. binding by the Augsburg binder Hans Lietz: blind-stamped pigskin over wood (rubbed), covers with different centre panel within roll-stamped border, spine with 3 raised bands titled in ink (rubbed & discoloured), edges bevelled inside, metal clasps & catches (clasps missing on Pars Hyemalis), blue edges. Good copy in fine, uniform bindings.

Rare 2nd Plantin ed. (1st 1591) of this work by Thomas Stapleton (Henfield 1535 - 1598 Leuven), English Roman Catholic controversialist who left England in 1559 and became a Professor of theology in Douai and Leuven.
Nice contemp. binding by H. Lietz (Augsburg, fl. 1588-1629). Front cover: central panel with Salvator Mundi surrounded by the words "Hic est voluntas [...] et credit in eum non pereat sed vida". Roll-stamped border with 4 different escutcheons holding the initials "H.L.", a pine cone (Augsburg arms), 3 fleur-de-lis, and a warrior. Between the escutcheons: foliage and heads of warriors. Back cover: central panel with figures Fides (holding crucifix and chalice with host) and Spes (hands clasped in prayer, looking at small figure of God in clouds above) seated face to face with motto "Impetrat allma fides C[h]risto quam Danete salutem expectare soror [spes animosa solet]". Identical roll-stamped border.
