Lot description

Mechelen, Hanicq, 1835

Folio: [4]-600-cxi-[1] pp. (f. FF2 missing, lack of paper with loss of text on f. 23.6, tears sometimes restored, many paper reinforcements mainly in the lower margin, last joined pieces disbound, sl. foxing).

Contemp. red morocco with metal ornaments by J.F. Vandegraveele-Devos, bookbinder in Tielt, double frame with gilt fillets and rolls, little tool in the corners, central gilt rectangular plate with an oval empty compartment, two silvered metal corners on each side and two clasps (one with an engr. mention of ownership), flat spine gilt and decorated with rolls and little tools as on the boards, green morocco title-label, roll on cuts and turn-ins, a.e.g. (rubbing, some lacks of leather on the joints, dark stains, marks of an oval piece probably fixed on the centre of the boards).

Monumental publication ill. with 9 full-page aquatints by Benoist (1 by Choubart) after Picqué, printed by P.J. Hanicq. Printed in red and black in 2 columns within ruled borders. Printed music. Numerous additions, 1851-1895: "Missa in festo Sanctissimi Cordis Domini Nostri Jesu Christi", "In festo Immaculatae Conceptionis" (Mechelen, H. Dessain), "Die 2. Martii. In festo Beati Caroli Boni Comitis Flandriae et martyris" (Regensburg, Fr. Pustet, 1883), "Die 18. Aprilis. Beati Idesbaldi abbatis" (ibid., 1895), "Die V. Junii. In festo Sancti Bonifacii" (Mechelen, H. Dessain, 1883). in fine, after the part-title "Missae propriae sanctorum diocesis Brugensis", the text printed by Hanicq was replaced by several pieces: "Missae per breve diei 28 Julii 1882 [...]" (Mechelen, H. Dessain, 1883, 6 pp.), and others printed in Brugge by Vanhee-Wante (1853-1862). Copy bound in Tielt (gilt sig. on the spine: "Thielt / J.F. Vandegraveele-Devos"; ref. Dubois d'Enghien 230: quotes "Vandegraveele, I. et R. ", bookbinders in Tielt in 1832, and "J.", ibid. in 1857-1877).
Prov. "J P [?] D[eo] G[ratias]" (dry stamp on half title). - Church of Wakken, village of the municipality of Dentergem in West Flanders, near Tielt (engr. mention "Kerk Wacken" on the upper clasp).
