Contemp. calf, covers ruled with double gilt fillets, gilt orn. spine with raised bands (rubbed, wormholes to lower cover).
First edition of this emblematical publication in praise of Louis XIV (it was later published under the title "Tapisseries du Roy [...]" with the text of André Félibien). First issue of the plates, by Sébastien Le Clerc after Jacques Bailly, composed of: a general engraved title, 2 titles within engr. borders (one for the "Quatre élémens", another for the "Quatre saisons"), 32 vignettes of devices and a title vignette with the Royal Arms. Devices from Charles Perrault (25), Louis Charpentier (4), Jacques de Cassagnes (2), Jean Chapelain (1).
