Western book cover and bookcase. Cover with inscription of Japanese characters in ink: "Ikkôsai / (Ikkyûsai?). Shoka gatsugajo", transcription in red: "Collection of Ikkyûsai (Ikkôsai): Album of miscellaneous Pictures, by various masters", red seal (book binding loose, stains and ink splodges, age-toned, partly restored).

19 double page sketches, 3 single page sketches depicting: 1-2. Dragon,- 3. Horses, monkeys,- 4. Fox (single page),- 5-6. Horses,- 7. Ferret,- 8. Tortoises (with inscription of Japanese characters in black ink: Mangaku Iboku, yûjin Oka Toyohiko, transcription in red, translation written with pencil: Judged by Toyokiko Oka, a friend, autograph of the late Mangaku, a Pupil of [...] 1813), signature in ink and transcription in red Shuun ustusu,- 9. Rats,- 10. Deer,- 11. Crane,- 12. Actors,- 13. Scene of a legend, with various inscriptions Senkeiô hitsu,- 14. Garden scene, inscription: Jitsubun Hirohide sei,- 15. Garden scene,- 16. Peacocks,- 17. Man with fish,- 18. Nobleman,- 19. Daruma,- 20-21. Two garden scenes on paper with light mica powder shining, with ink inscription: Tosa Mitsunobu, transcription in red and also written with pencil: Tosa Mitsunobu (died 1543),- 22. Added loose double page: Man with Koto under the moon.
This album is a good example of sketches and drawings collected for the study of different Japanese styles. The images are fresh and vibrant.
