2 parts in 1 vol., 4to: [4]-viii-266, 278-[1-1 bl.] pp.; 132 (of 132) pl. (lacking pl. 1 of the first part, lacking the prelim. pp. of part 2).

Contemp. quarter long grained red calf (corners rubbed and bumped), gilt flat spine.

First edition of this attractive work on medical and useful plants by the French botanist and physician J. Roques (1772-1850). Illustr. with 132 (71, 61) beautiful hand-coloured engraved plates of plants, with details such as roots, flowers and fruits. Each plant is identified by its common name and the one adopted by Linnaeus. Furthermore the various classification systems of Linnaeus, Tournefort and Jussieu are summarised in the "Discours préliminaire". Roques, born in Valence, studied in Montpellier and moved later on to Paris where he became an eminent botanist.
