4 (of 9) vol., 8vo ; 310 pl. (text n.c., foxing).

Contemp. half red calf, green cloth on boards, spines with raised bands and gilt tooled compartments, blue spotted edges (worn, faded spines, spine of vol. 2 part. disbound, some turn ins lacking...).

First edition of the second set of "The most important French flower periodical of its day" (J.J. White, in "Delectus Hunteriana" 26) started by de Launay (1750-1816), continued after his death in 1816 by Loiseleur-Deslongchamps (1774-1849) and finished by Charles Lemaire (1800-1871) himself (he is the author of vol. 2) or under his scientific direction (vol. 3-4). Ill. with 310 hand-coloured pl. (complete, ca. 25 pl. on double or folding lvs), unnumbered, accompanied by descriptive text leaves. This set was published in 3 steps: vol. 1 (1839-1841), vol. 2-4 (1841-1944) and vol. 5-9 (1841-1850 of which 3 are reissues, meaning - for this copy - that the last 2 vol. are lacking).
