Annunciation.

Woodcut, 10,6 x 7,4 cm, laid paper pasted on vellum, contemp. hand coloured (several losses of paper and paint affecting the image, sm. tears, paper sl. curved, sm. paper slip pasted on verso).

Very rare early woodcut with a reading Mary behind a lectern on the left. She is greeted by the Angel Gabriel on the right above whome a banderole reads "Ave Maria [Gratia] Plena dominus tecum". The scene is set in a domestic interior with a decorative gothic arch. Coloured in red, green and blue. The woodcut has been glued onto later 16th-cent. manuscript fragment on vellum. On verso a Latin prayer to the Holy Virgin is written with red ink, framed by coloured margins. The capital O is equaly pasted on the vellum.
