Lot description

19 photos (some double), sepia toned, 29,5 x 23,2 cm, under passe-partout, 4 with a paper strip on verso referring to the photographer.

Moving portraits of Africans, possibly Maasai people, a Nilotic ethnic group inhabiting northern, central and southern Kenya and northern Tanzania. Among the photos are women, men and children, some with a particular haircut or with specific adornments. One photo of a family or group sitting in front of a dwelling hut next to a banana tree with a man drinking from a calabash. Another photo showing the silver shimmering of the sun on the water surface. Apparently, Jacques Doncq, possibly the photographer of all the images, was befriended by Auguste Bol, another well-known photographer.

Bartholomé, trésorier du Comité Stanley de la Province de Léopoldville. 14 photos, b/w, 18,1 x 23,9 cm, protected by tissue guards and stuck on paper, captions below, some text pages. Photo album 4to oblong, brown bark-like binding, "1881-1956" on upper cover. Photos of the Stanley memorial in Kinshasa, formerly Léopoldville. The inauguration took place in 1956. At the end the names of members of several committees who played a role in having the memorial erected. - Handcrafted decorative photo frame in African style made from raffia palm, c. 32 x 26, for photos with size c. 20 x 13, 5 cm.
