(missing prelim. ff. 2, 3, 9 in photogr. copy; numerous single wormholes and wormtracks throughout, esp. in 2nd half, with occasional loss of letters or words, marginal dampstaining, repairs to some margins and wormtracks, and to bottom corner of final ff.).

Mod. calf with remains of original ruled calf pasted on, spine with 5 raised bands, mod. endpapers (old calf wormed). In all a good copy.

“Henri Estienne’s only illustrated Bible ... the first illustrated edition of the French Geneva version” (Schreiber). Woodcut cartouche and mark on title. 28 woodcuts, incl. 3 full-page and 1 double-page, after Robert Estienne’s 1538-1540 Bible. Title in red and black. Text in 2 col. with marginal glosses in sm. type. Loosely added: 6 strips from 1 medieval Latin manuscript on vellum (recovered from the original binding).
