Last state, largely revised, of this print (1st ed.: 1667, with the signature of Stoopendael, which does not appear here). Jan van der Heyden (1637-1712), a famous Dutch painter and printmaker, was also an engineer and inventor. He worked intensively with his brother Nicolaes, a hydraulic engineer, to improve and produce fire equipment. They improved the fire hose pump in 1672 and in 1673 became managers of Amsterdam's fire-fighting equipment and organisation. Text below in two columns, in Dutch and French.
