First edition with German & French parallel text, commented by Jacques de Solleysel (1st ed. transl. on the English manuscript: Antwerp, Van Meurs, 1657). Illustrated with the full-page coat of arms of the dedicatee, woodcuts in text and 82 plates after Abraham Van Diepenbecke (some on double pp. or fold.). Deals with horse breeds, how to determine their age, education, jumps, galloping, etc. Text in 2 col.; gothic or roman type. German title in red & black. The politician and swordsman Cavendish (1593-1676) was exiled to Antwerp after the defeat at Marston Moor during the first English Civil War. He only returned to England after the Restoration where he was named Duke by the King. The English edition was only published in 1667.
