Large folio (55 x 38,5 cm): frontisp.-[64] ff.-110 pl. (of 119, lacking quire "B" and pl. 2, 31, 54 and 92 and supplement [3O]2 2*1,2,3 (cfr. STCN); tears in the margins of front. and following pp. and pl. underlaid, brown large stains on lvs near the end underlaid with large pieces of paper, pl. 87-89 browned due to poor paper quality, same pl. annotated in red ink).
Mod. half red cloth, marbled paper on covers, flat spine, black leather title label. Uncut copy, probably 1st binding. Sold w.a.f.
Second enlarged Latin edition (1st ed.: Leiden, 1739), translated & edited by W. Dundass, composed by the English surgeon and anatomist W. Cowper (1666-1709). "The most elaborate and beautiful of all 17th c. English treatises on anatomy and also one of the most extraordinary plagiarisms in the entire history of medicine". Ill. with a front., engr. vign. on title and 110 (101 + 9 in the appendix) full page engr. plates by Gérard de Lairesse which Cowper purchased as sets of the van Gunst copperplates used to illustrate G. Bidloo's "Anatomia Humani Corporis" (Amst. 1685). Title in red & black.
