Antwerp, (A. Tavernier for) Widow and Heirs of J. Steelsius, 1567 (col. 1566)

Sm. folio: [548] pp. (sm. wormtrack at inner margin in quires a-t, minor staining at fore edge margin, quire mm bound in wrong order).

Contemp. mottled calf, covers with central gilt arms within blind-ruled border, gilt spine with 4 raised bands, brown leather title label, mod. enpapers (rubbed, corners bumped, head & tail rep.). Good copy.

Rare Ameet Tavernier edition of the biblical concordances, probably based on the 1565 edition by R. Estienne. Printed in 4 col. in a nice miniscule roman type. Woodcut Steelsius device on title.

Prov. Ownership entries on title and front flyleaf, a.o. "Ant. Cousyn pastoris oppidi de Capriche 1643", i.e. the priest of the Flemish town of Kaprijke; "emptus in auctione [...] D. Vande Velde Pens: Brug: 24 solidis 1718", i.e. bought at auction by Vande Velde from Bruges in 1718; "Ex legato R.A.D. Crocquet Canonici Sti Donatiani [...] Capucinis Conv. Brug: 1718 [...], i.e. given by the St Donatian canon Croquet to the Capuchins of Bruges in 1718. - Gilt arms on covers of Croquet with the motto "Progredere", cfr Jean-Baptiste Croquet, canon of St Donatian's Cathedral in Bruges (de Jonghe d'Ardoye I:179). - Libr. stamps on recto & verso title.
