Contemp. English calf, covers with gilt ruled border, gilt spine with 6 raised bands, chain mark on upper cover (rubbed, joints splitting, head def.). Good copy.
Editio princeps of the original Greek text of Procopius by the Augsburg scholar D. Hoeschel (1556-1617). It is a 6th-c. collection of writings on the Persian, Vandal and Gothic Wars, also including the 2nd, much enlarged, ed. of a description of the public works (churches, palaces, hospitals, bridges) built during the reign of Justinian down to 558. Engr. title, showing Justinian and his generals Belisarius and Narses. For the larger part printed in Greek.
