First edition of the historical-geographical description of China by Olfert Dapper (1636-1689). It gives an account of Pieter van Hoorn's mission, by order of the Dutch East India Company, to the Chinese court in 1667. Part 1 concerning the second and third mission comprises an engraved title, dated 1671, and 22 (of 27) engr. including 1 map of Aimoey and Quemoey (missing pl.: Hoksieuw, p. 204, Aymuy, p. 327, Pouching, p. 289, and 2 "Merken der Mandarijns" p. 459). Part 2 on China has the 7 (of 8) engr. mentioned in the instructions to the bookbinder (missing pl.: Supim), but does not include the supplementary 4 engr. with Chinese facsimile prints. Given this, we most probably have a very early edition.
