Lot description

Folio: 120 engravings (final print set age-toned, some foxing).

18th cent. marbl. paper covers, flat vellum spine and corner pieces (rubbed, def. at corners and spine, def. at head).

Exceptional album with 20 sets of engravings, each consisting of 6 pl. Together, they form an exquisite catalogue of all kinds of French Rococo designs. The album contains exuberant designs for beds, cabinets and alcoves, funeral monuments, writing cabinets, clocks with astrological or geographical instruments, chairs, summer houses and garden pavilions, baptismal fonts, pulpits, church organs, confessionals, garden gates, chimney pieces, water pumps, antique vases, water wells, coffee cabinets and garden ornaments. Each print set is preceded by a title page in German and Italian. The designs were made by J.J. Schübler (1689-1741), important Nürnberger architectural theoretician.
