The most famous black/white photographic portrait of the Belgian politician Joris Van Severen (1894-1940), founder of the Flemish nationalist and solidarist movement Verdinaso. Willy Kessels (1889-1974) was a Belgian photographer considered as most representative of "modernistic" photography. He became a friend of Van Severen in 1935 and realized photo and film reports for the Verdinaso.

Publishers' wr. damaged. 19 pl. (of 20) in phototype (lacks nr. 13, Arhtur Honegger): nice portraits of André Gide (3), Charles Despiaux, François Mauriac (2), James Ensor, Ossip Zadkine (2), Colette, Paul Valéry (2), Aristide Maillol (2), Franz Hellens, André Malraux, Constant Permeke, Robert Poulet and Roger Fry by the Belgian photographer Ch. Leirens (1888-1963), author of numerous portraits. Numbered copy (nr.236/326 of which 26 out of trade).
