Hideyoshi's 54 fighting stories are a major work by Yoshitsuya. The series features 54 events from the wars of Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1536-1598), the second unifier of Japan. The series is held in the format ôban-tate-e and is characterized by the striking pattern of a purple border design. The compositions are full of action. Ref.
