Dutch edition, publ. simultaneously with the original French ("Le temple des Muses"), of a sumptuous publication on classical mythology by La Barre de Beaumarchais (1698-after 1750). The work, based on Michel de Marolles’ "Le temple des Muses" (1655), explains a number of classical myths and stories, mainly from Ovid. It is esp. valued for the beautiful engravings by B. Picart (1673-1733), a French engraver active in the Netherlands : front., title vignette, headpiece to the dedication and 60 full-page plates, printed within exquisite ornamental borders and inspired by the compositions of Abraham van Diepenbeeck for the 1655 ed.
