4to: [8]-383-[11 (of 13)] pp.; 42 pls. (some foxing, "Avis au relieur" lacking).

Modern binding in a 17th-c. style: calf, gilt-tooled spine with raised bands, original red leather label, red edges.

Third enlarged anonymous counterfeit Dutch edition (1st counterf. ed.: 1711), the original ed. having been published in 1709 in Paris (then 1713, 1722, 1732). This influential treatise on garden architecture and horticulture by the French author Dezallier d'Argenville (1680-1765) is ill. with 42 engraved folding pls. (complete), unnumbered and unsigned: garden plans, pumps, fountains, etc. A few woodcuts in text. Woodcut ornament on title. Title in red & black. Ref. He frequented Stanislas Leszczynski's court in Nancy and Lunéville and was a famous collector and patron of the arts whose library was sold in 1770 (armorial bookplate engr. by Dominique Collin). - R.D.
