Sm. folio: [2]-xxxv-[1 bl.]-132 pp.; 1 pl. and 2 tabl. (printed on blue paper, pp. xix-xx blank).
Contemp. marbled sheep, blind-ruled covers, gilt-orn. flat spine, red edges (lower cover very and front joint rubbed, some rubbing to front cover, joints part. split, head def. and tail missing).
Extremely rare most probably first edition of this work on naval tactics for the use of the King's army under the command of the navy officer Louis Charles du Chaffault (1708-1794), named Lieutenant in 1746. He is notably known for his actions in the Second Battle of Cape Finisterre in 1746, and was one of the commanders of the Battle of Ushant in 1778 during the American Revolutionary War. He was promoted Vice-Amiral in 1792. With shemas in-text, 1 copper-engr. plate ("Mouvemens de guerre") and 2 tables on double page ("Signaux d'airs de vente" and "Table de fausses routes").
