4to: [7]-220-[2] ff. (lacking é1 and portrait [?]; some margins and corners skilfully restored at the begin. and at the end).

Red morocco signed Koehler (faint (damp)stains), triple gilt rule and central coat of arms on covers, gilt spine "à la grotesque" on 5 raised bands, gilt inside dentelle, gilt-ruled sides, a.e.g. Good copy.

Very rare 1st edition of the poems of P. de Brach (1547-1605), a Bordeaux lawyer and a friend of du Bartas, Ronsard and Montaigne; he also was a translator of Torquato Tasso. The 2nd book is dedicated to Ronsard and contains a long "Hymne de Bourdeaux"; the 3rd one contains "Son voyage en Gascongne" (in the company of Saluste du Bartas), with some verse in Gascon dialect (f. 162v). Without [?] the portrait by Th. de Leu (mentioned by Tchemerzine and Brunet but not present in the copies digitized by Gallica and Cambridge). With 2 extra loosely inserted unsigned engraved portraits of Montaigne. Nice edition printed in italics. Ref.
