Folio: [8]-886-[32] pp. (unobtrusive marg. dampstain at top, a few tiny wormholes in blank inner margin).

Cont. blind-tooled calf over wood, edges bevelled inside, gilt spine on 4 raised bands, metal corner pcs, metal clasps and catches (titled "iosephus" and "H.H. 1557"), lower pastedown made from a vellum leaf of a 15th-c. rubricated Latin manuscript in 2 cols (rebacked, rubbed, joints def., covers cut into). Nice copy.

Uncommon Basel edition of the Latin trsl. by the Bohemian humanist Gelenius (1497-1544) of the works of the Jewish historian Flavius Josephus (37-100). On pp. 870-886 "De imperio rationis" in the trsl. of Erasmus (1517). Woodcut Froben mark on title and at the end. Ref.
