Lot description

Rubricated Latin manuscript on strong paper, c. 12,5 x 10 cm, 36 ff. (+ 3 blanks), 21 ll., expertly written in brown ink (a few sm. marg. stains).

Mod. gold-tooled red morocco by De Samblanx, covers with frames of gilt double rules and central ornament, gilt spine on 4 raised bands, gilt sides, gilt inside dentelles, marbl. endpapers, a.e.g. In very good condition.

Nice small manuscript with 3 favoured devotional texts: “Hec scripta su(n)t extracta ex visio(n)ibus beate machtildis virginis” (ff. 1r-5r), a few chapters from the mystical visions of the Benedictine Saint Mechtilde of Hackeborn (1240-1298); “Ex meditationibus b(ea)ti Bernardi" (ff. 5v-8r); Thomas a Kempis’ “Litte rose garden”, written after 1456 and immediately very popular.
