Contemp. marbled calf, gilt triple fillet frame on boards, flat gilt-tooled spine, red leather title-label, gilt marbled edges (lack of leather on top turn-in, joint partially split, cracks on spine, dulled corners, sm. scratches and stains on the boards, rests of shelf-mark).
3rd enlarged edition (1st ed., 1763) of this treatise on hysteria (for women) and hypochondria (for men), regarded as a precursor of psychiatry. Pomme (1735-1812), Doctor of Medicine of the University of Montpellier and "médecin consultant du roi", was criticised for his "thérapeutique humectante" which consisted in more or less prolonged immersions in hot water baths...
