Folio: 671 [= 675]-[1 bl.] pp. (without the correction slip on p. 33 part 1 (not mentioned by Voet either), 2 cancels: the woodcut of p. 133 and p. 136 in part 1, (damp)staining throughout, title soiled and underl., some other margins also underl., some wormholes, some tiny (burn?)holes in-text, some margins frayed).

Mod. blind-st. binding, spine with raised bands, mod. endpapers.

First edition, part one only, of an extensive illustrated survey of European plants by M. de Lobel (1538-1616), Flemish physician and botanist living in London. Lavishly ill. with in-text woodcuts engraved by Cornelius Muller, Gérard Janssen van Campen, Arnold Nicolai and Antoine vander Leest, after Pieter vander Borcht. Our copy contains part one only "Plantarum seu Stirpium historia" concerning esp. the plants in the Low Countries.Typographical title within a portico (Plantin's mark on the first). Large medallion figuring Lobel's emblem with his motto "Candore et spe" by A. vander Leest at the back of the dedicatory of the "Stirpium".
