Lot description

Engraving, 41,9 x 30,4 cm, laid paper, signed at bottom right: "R. V. Auden Aerd delin. et Sculp.", address at bottom centre: "In Roma nella stamparia di Domenico de Rossi alla Pace con Privil.", Italian title and text in lower margin (sm. water stain at top centre, Roman number at top right removed but still visible).

Hinged at upper edges, under passe-partout. Good impression with wide margins.

Robert van Audenaerd (1663-1743) produced this engraving for the "Raccolta di statue antiche e moderne", an overview of sculptures dedicated to Pope Clement XI (1649-1721). The monumental Farnese Bull is one of the most famous antique sculptures. Kept at the Palazzo Farnese in Rome at the time, it is currently on display at the Museo Archeologico Nazionale in Naples (inv. 6002).
