Contemp. mottled calf, gilt ruled spines with raised bands, marbled edges.

Latin love poems of Latin Antiquity. The first, "The Vigil of Venus", probably composed in 2nd, 4th or 5th centuries on the eve of the festival of Venus in Sicily, narrates the annual awakening of the vegetable and animal world thanks to Venus. It is attributed to Tiberius, Catullus or Florus. Ed. annotated a.o. by Justus Lipsius. The second, "Ausonius Cupido cruci adfixus", is commented a.o. by J. Scaliger. Red & black title with vignette.
