Very rare final Lyon ed. of the "Book of Secrets" of the Swiss scholar Gesner (1516-1565), 1st publ. Zürich 1552 under the pseudonym of Evonymus Philiater. Twelve editions were published in Lyon alone 1554-1559. It deals with the use of distillation in medicine, equipment and techniques, the extraction of oils and the fabrication of perfumes. Some 60 woodcuts, attributed to Cl. Boussy, illustrate plants, furnaces, glassware and instruments.
