Lot description
Antwerp, J. Bellerus, 1562
8vo: [8]-192 ff. (some staining in upper and lower bl. margins).
Later quarter brown calf, marbled paper on covers, gilt orn. spine with 4 raised bands (joints, head and tail rubbed).
Later ed. (1st 1550) of the most important early history of Scandinavia by the cartographer and archbishop of Upsala O. Magnus (1490-1557). This work on folklore and history remained for the rest of Europe the authority on Swedish matters. It was translated into Italian, German, English and Dutch, and not, surprisingly, until 1909 into Swedish. Ill. with many woodcuts showing us scenes of sailing, hunting, fishing, skiing, snowballing, jousting, drinking, dancing, bathing, in fact all the customs and habits of the Northern European peoples.

Prov. Entry crossed out on upper blank margin of title.
