Lot description
A finely executed series of prints of camellias, drawn by J.J. Jung from the flowers in the greenhouse of Lorenzo Bernardo Berlèse (1784-1863), engraved by Oudet and printed by N. Rémond. Encompassing: "Camellia Rosa species nova" (pl. 32), "Camellia Campsii Alba" (pl. 76), "Camellia Stephany" (pl. 211), "Camellia Duchesse d'Orléans" (pl. 212), "Camellia Dicksonii" (pl. 273), "Camellia Bedfordii striata" (pl. 286), "Camellia Fenestrata" (pl. 291) and "Camellia Princesse Baciocch"i (pl. 299). The stipple and line engravings were printed in colour, à la poupée, then finished by hand, a technique perfect for botanical prints. Extracted from Berlèse's "Iconographie du genre "Camellia", ou Description et figures des "camellia" les plus beaux et les plus rares, peints d'après nature [...]", Paris, H. Cousin, 1841-1843.
