Drawing, black chalk, pen and brown ink, 27 x 17 cm, laid paper with watermark (unidentified), signed (by a later collector?) on lower right margin "Ab. Diepenbeek" and n. 31 (sl. waterstain mainly along right margin and a smaller stain to left margin, old creases on lower half).

The Holy Virgin (dressed here as a nun surrounded by three winged putti with the Holy Spirit descending in a nimbus. The iconography refers to the Book of Genesis (3:15), where the trickery of the snake is undone through Virgin Mary and the birth of the Messiah.
