Lot description
[Northern Low Countries, first half of 15th c.]
Illumination, 38,8 x 26,7 cm, written with a red and black Gothic hand, music notation (lower part sl. soiled).
Under a wooden frame (not studied outside the frame).
Illustrated with a large D initial (ca. 10,5 x 10 cm), with red and blue penwork heightened with liquid gold extending with a geometrical marginal decoration (the inside of this initial as well as the pattern below are not decorated, only the preparatory work remains), and with two smaller initials (ca. 3 x 2,5 cm): one with red and blue penwork, the second with a grotesque. This decoration could have been made in the IJssel region. The geometrical marginal decoration is close to an Antifonarium made for the monastery of Windesheim in 1409 (Tilburg, STF, Haaren 31). The text begins with "Dominus secus mare Galilee".
Ref. Kriezels, aubergines en takkenbossen, nr. 111.
