Lot description
5 engravings, 4 x 9,2 cm (4 prints) and 6 x 19,1 cm, laid paper, numbered and signed in plate at lower margin (trimmed within the platemark, paper thinned, some stains, old repairs affecting the image, corners often damaged).
All under one passe-partout.
Small collection with hunts by the Bruges painter and printmaker Marcus Gheeraerts (1521-1590). 4 of the engravings (n. 5, 6, 7, 8) are part of a rare series of 8 plates depicting animal hunts. The original drawings of n. 3, 4, 6, and 9 for the series are now in the collection of the British Museum. Both the Rijksmuseum and the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge have a complete set.
