Lot description

Drawing, graphite, 38,3 x 23,7 cm, velin paper, signed at lower right corner "Flor Crabeels" (some brown stains, foxing).

Under passe-partout.

A well-executed drawing of a lady in a rich dress, holding a fan. On the verso side, a study in graphite of a lady standing; perhaps the same model? Signed as Florent Crabeels (1829-1896), a Belgian landscape painter who was one of the founders of "L'Art indépendant" in Antwerp. He worked mostly in the beautiful town of Kalmthout, making him one of the prime members of the so-called "Kalmthout school".
