Lot description

8vo: [16]-881 [= 899]-[41] pp. (some minor staining, title def. at inner margin with sm. loss of engr.).

Contemp. gilt polished calf over wood, covers with gilt ruled border and central ornament, spine with 4 raised bands and (later) title in ink, metal clasps and catches (spine rubbed, front joint splitting, head def.). Good copy.

Rev. ed. of the Dutch translation by the Jesuit G. Zoes (1579-1628) of a popular emblematical work by the Mechelen Jesuit Sucquet (1574-1627). Engr. title and 32 numbered full-page emblematical ill. by Boetius à Bolswert (1580-1633). Mainly in Gothic type.
