First part only of the 2nd enlarged and revised ed. (1st 1671) of this profusely illustrated military treatise on war and military engineering by the French military engineer and cartographer A. Manesson-Mallet (1630-1706). Engr. ill.: front., 2 full-page portraits of Louis XIV (by P. Giffart) and the author (by P. Landry), and 152 nice engravings showing small maps and panoramic views of European towns i.a. Douai, Arras, La Rochelle, Ath, Lisbon, Breda, Barcelona, Paris, Venice, Dunkirk, Furnes, Antwerp, Nieuwpoort, Dixmude, etc., fortifications, military equipment & costumes, etc. Plate 151 printed upside down.
