Disbound. Good copy.
Very rare Erfurt edition (orig. 1523 Wittenberg ed. by Martin Luther) of a commentary on two Psalms by G. Savonarola (1452-1498). This Florentine Dominican, a prophet of apocalyptic changes in church and society, (in his view) due to the evils of his times, was excommunicated, hanged and burnt. Whereas Savonarola tried to gain political control of his immediate surroundings, Luther pursued religious-theological ambitions that were all the more effective in this respect. One sign that Luther regarded Savonarola as a kindred spirit and champion of the same cause despite all the differences was that he arranged a reprint of Savonarola’s last two psalm interpretations written immediately before his conviction and execution.
